As we walked back in, the mood seemed lighter, as if all champagne had worked its magic. Mrs. Day took the lead as I scouted the room. Who did she choose as my wedding planner?

I scanned the women and what they had on. I wasn’t impressed with any apparel. Truly my planner would know how to dress and have a unique and sincere sense of style.

They studied me back, but I didn’t worry. I had the attention of one that would matter.

Finally, after we’d circled the room, she came to stop as she approached her son Damion.

“And here he is!” She was glowing with pride.

I gasped for a moment, truly taken aback. I was having my wedding planned by a man? And no doubt the brother of the man I was marrying! It was a little bit awkward to say the least.

Damion seemed to have read my thoughts. “Yeah, I’ll be the one who’ll make this happen. Don’t worry. Just trust. You’ll be in good hands. Large events are my specialties.”

Specialties, maybe. But it was still strange.

I nodded my head a bit apprehensive.

He caught the uneasiness shown in my eyes.

He grinned at me to lighten the mood. “Awww, come on, just gimme a chance. I promise I can work magic on it.”

He dropped his voice.

“And tell you what, if things don’t work out, we can get someone else. There’s lots of big money in planning events. That’s the reason ya boy first got into it. Let me ask you something. What do you do?”

I replied. “I work in a small café.”

“So you fix coffee. Been there how long?”

“About a year,” I responded.

“Well, just think back to when the dude first hired you. Or better yet, pretend I’m a customer. The very first customer that you had. Why would I want you to fix my coffee?”

“’Cause I’ve been trained to do my job.”

“Exactly,” he said. “And so have I. But what if there was this big booty girl, that I knew from way back and called her over, and I asked her to fix my coffee instead. Wouldn’t you feel a slight bit offended?”

“I guess,” I answered.

“And why is that?”

“’Cause what was the need when I was right there?”

“Right….and….”

“A few more reasons. Looks shouldn’t have much to do with it. ‘Cause you know the girl and like her shape, doesn’t make her any more qualified.”

When I finished that sentence, he smiled at me. I had to admit. He had me there.

I exhaled, willing to give him a shot. Besides, he seemed so confident. I don’t know if it was part of that Day brothers’ charm, but I was willing to drop my guard for now.

“I’ll leave you to talk,” his mother said, and made her way back towards her guests.

“So,” asked Damion, patting a seat. “How soon were thinking ‘bout doing this?”
